Holiday Celebrations
Most of our holiday celebrations and services are child-friendly. On Simchat Torah we dance and sing, unroll the Torah, and read the end and beginning of the Torah. Children play a special role, both in the dancing and in receiving a special blessing. At our Chanukkah party our children light the menorah, sing the blessings, eat latkes, and play dreidel. Our Chanukkah party is one of our largest annual events, where the entire community comes together to celebrate. On Tu B’shevat we celebrate the new year of the trees and teach our children about the importance of protecting the environment. We have a Tu B’shevat seder, which includes stories, songs, and food to eat. Our Purim celebration is a lively experience. Most children—and many adults—dress up, and we retell the story of Purim. We sing, dance, read the megillah, and act silly. And of course, eat hamantaschen!
