Welcome to Our High Holiday Cantor, Shira Stanford-Asiyo
Cantor Shira Stanford-Asiyo is delighted to join our community for the High Holidays this fall. She loves the dynamic energy and progressive values of Shaarei Shamayim and is honored to be our congregation’s High Holiday Cantor.
Cantor Shira currently works as a cantor, Jewish educator and outreach program manager in Vancouver, BC. Her position at Shaarei Shamayim fits well with her other commitments.
Dedicated to a vibrant and diverse expression of spirituality, Cantor Shira has been involved with a variety of organizations and projects in the Jewish community. She previously worked as a Program Manager on the Union for Reform Judaism's Audacious Hospitality team. She is the former executive director of JYCA-Jewish Youth for Community Action, a youth-led social justice organization. She served as the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Hagivot in Fountain Hills, AZ, a music educator at Pardes Jewish Day School, a group leader for the American Jewish World Service, and a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Multiracial Network.
