12:30 PM - 1:45 PMvia ZoomLunch, Latkes, and Learning with Rabbi Arik Ascherman: Human Rights in Perilous Times
This Chanukkah, learn about the work of the Israeli human rights organization, Torat Tzedek (Torah of Justice), which operates in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Rabbi Arik Ascherman and others will join us virtually from Israel, focusing on human rights in light of COVID, an alarming spike in army-backed settler aggression, and the U.S. elections. He will explain how Torat Tzedek is addressing these challenges, and there will be a non-obligatory opportunity to provide financial support for the organization.

Rabbi Ascherman is internationally recognized as a role model for religiously rooted human rights activism. Torat Tzedek fights for Palestinian farmers and shepherds, Israelis living in poverty, East Jerusalemites in danger of eviction, and equality for Israel's Arab citizens. Rabbi Ascherman and Torat Tzedek received the Rabbi David J Forman Memorial Fund's Human Rights Prize for 5779 (2019).
