As another year rolls around, familiar words come to my lips: These were not the holidays that I had expected. And yet, what a blessing that we can all come together, either in person or online. As our notions of community shift and expand, I am so grateful that we can be there for each other through these challenging times.

This is my twentieth year at Shaarei Shamayim. I have grown so much over these years. I still feel that I am learning new skills and grappling with interesting challenges and questions. This is the community where I have made my home. My oldest daughter celebrated her bat mitzvah in April, and my younger daughter's is less than two years away. As I have grown, so too has the community. We now have 195 households who are part of our community. We have also grown in our sophistication, creativity, and ability to meet our members' diverse needs.

Two decades after I finished rabbinical school I feel so fortunate to still be here. I cannot imagine working anywhere else.

Wishing you a shanah tovah -- a sweet, healthy, and meaningful new year.

Rabbi Laurie
