Monday, September 28, 4:30 p.m.
Yom Kippur Panel Discussion held on Zoom.

During Yom Kippur we reflect on the harms we've done, both individually and collectively. The upcoming election will determine the future of our country in ways that we could never have imagined. Angela Lang and Mathew Rothschild will join us to reflect on the meaning of this election and our personal and communal responsibilities to getting out the vote and demanding fair and legitimate elections. Facilitated by Jen Rubin.

Sponsored by Congregation Shaarei Shamayim with support from the Jewish Federation of Madison.

Bios:
ANGELA LANG was born and raised in the heart of Milwaukee and is currently serving as Executive Director of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) that works to intentionally uplift the voice of the Black community and increase civic engagement. Angela is motivated by making substantial and transformative change in her community while developing young local leaders of color. In her organizing experience it is clear that there is a deep need for cultural competency, diversity and more seats at the table. Her journey in organizing hasn't always been easy as oftentimes she is the only woman, young person, and person of color in the room expected to speak on behalf of those communities. She constantly advocates for more seats at the table for those who represent the New American Majority.

MATTHEW ROTHSCHILD is the executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, where he’s been for the last six years. Prior to that, he worked at The Progressive magazine for 32 years — most of that time as editor and publisher. You can read his commentaries in the Wisconsin Examiner, the Cap Times, Urban Milwaukee, and occasionally in the State Journal. And he frequently appears on radio shows in Wisconsin, including on WORT, WFAW, WOJB, and WPR.

JEN RUBIN is a member of Congregation Shaarei Shamayim, producer of Love Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Humanities Council, and teaches a Social Policy course at the UW School of Social Work's Part Time program.
